Day one, we gathered as the sun started to set, casting a mesmerizing glow over the horizon. I directed the young men's attention to this beautiful sunset, and we took a moment to appreciate God's handiwork. It was a unique, one-time-only sunset painted just for us. What a way to kick off our camp, recognizing the Creator's artistic touch and His presence in our midst!
The next day, we stood amid the tall trees surrounding the fields. I urged the young men to acknowledge God's greatness through these resilient trees. These magnificent witnesses to changing seasons and storms testified to His steadfastness. Like these trees, our faith should stand firm amidst life's challenges. It was a powerful lesson, and the young men soaked in the wisdom of God's creation.
Before our next lab, I wanted to draw their attention to the campus grounds—this very location God had picked for us to learn from Him. Every step they took was part of His divine plan, leading them to growth and spiritual insights. The field was not just a field; it was a sacred space for discovering God's purpose for their lives. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation and reverence.
Finally, we gathered again, and this time I pointed their attention to the people around them. God had sent each individual present to teach and show love. We discussed the significance of divine connections and how God chose them to bless and be a blessing to one another. The realization that their fellow campers were instruments of God's grace left a lasting impact on their hearts.
"Before you take the field, acknowledge God! He is here!" These words became our rallying cry throughout the camp. We reminded each other that every athletic pursuit, every game, and every moment of competition was an opportunity to invite God into the equation. It was about embracing His presence, His guidance, and His love before stepping onto that field.
As Coach T, I can tell you that this experience was more than just a sports camp; it was a journey of faith and discovery. Seeing these young men grow in their understanding of God's hand in everything they do was incredibly fulfilling. Sports became a medium through which they encountered God's love, wisdom, and purpose for their lives.
So, my fellow athletes, as you gear up for your next game, remember to acknowledge God's handiwork. Whether it's a breathtaking sunset, the resilience of nature, or the people around you, see these as reminders of God's presence and influence. Let your faith and your athletic pursuits intertwine, and you'll experience a deeper level of joy, purpose, and victory in all you do.
