JAM SESSION 4 - THE DECISION
The Manhood Theme: Leadership
Key Verse
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
Romans 10:9
A Big Decision
Many of you have heard about LeBron James.
Years ago, he made a decision that everybody talked about.
He chose to leave one team and join another.
People had opinions.
Some agreed.
Some disagreed.
But one thing was clear.
His decision changed the direction of his future.
That's how decisions work.
They have consequences.
They move us toward something.
Or away from something.
Let's Review
In Session 1, we learned:
My Bad.
We all sin.
In Session 2, we learned:
What's The Penalty?
Sin has consequences.
In Session 3, we learned:
The Answer.
Jesus is God's answer to our sin problem.
Now we come to Session 4.
The Decision.
What will you do with Jesus?
Everybody Follows Somebody
Think about it.
Athletes follow coaches.
Students follow teachers.
Children follow parents.
People follow leaders.
The question is not:
Will you follow?
The question is:
Who are you following?
Nicodemus Had Questions
One night, a religious leader named Nicodemus came to Jesus.
He wanted answers.
He wanted to understand.
Jesus explained that knowing about God wasn't enough.
Something had to change in his heart.
Nicodemus had to make a decision.
Just like every one of us.
The Decision
The Bible says:
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
Romans 10:9
Notice how simple it is.
God is not asking you to become perfect.
God is not asking you to earn His love.
God is asking you to trust Jesus.
To believe.
To follow.
To make Him Lord.
What Does Lord Mean?
Lord means leader.
Boss.
Master.
The one calling the plays.
When you make Jesus Lord, you're saying:
"I trust You more than I trust myself."
"I want to follow Your way."
"I want You to lead my life."
Coach T Reminder
Everybody follows somebody.
Choose your Leader wisely.
A Leadership Decision
Some people spend their whole lives letting the crowd lead them.
Their friends lead them.
Social media leads them.
Their feelings lead them.
Their fears lead them.
Leaders make choices.
Leaders take ownership.
Leaders decide who they will follow.
Think About It
Who has the biggest influence on your life right now?
Who is calling the plays in your life?
What direction are they leading you?
The Invitation
Maybe you've never made the decision to follow Jesus.
Maybe you've been thinking about it.
Maybe you've got questions.
That's okay.
Ask questions.
Learn.
Seek.
But don't ignore the decision.
Because every man eventually chooses who will lead his life.
Focus
Who am I following right now?
Action
Spend five minutes talking honestly with God.
Tell Him what you're thinking.
Tell Him your questions.
Tell Him your fears.
Tell Him your hopes.
Reflection
Am I letting Jesus lead my life, or am I trying to lead it by myself?
Coach T Challenge
A boy follows the crowd.
A man chooses his Leader.
Choose wisely.
Choose intentionally.
Choose Jesus.
Then stay in the groove and follow Him one day at a time.
