JAM SESSION 2 - THE PENALTY
The Manhood Theme: Responsibility
Key Verse
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 6:23
Every Choice Has A Price
Sometimes the price is small.
Sometimes the price is big.
Miss practice.
Lose playing time.
Fail to study.
Get a bad grade.
Break trust.
Lose a friendship.
Every choice has a result.
Life works that way.
The Story Of David
David was a king.
He loved God.
He was a leader.
But David made some terrible choices.
He thought nobody would find out.
He thought he could hide what he had done.
Then God sent a prophet named Nathan.
Nathan told David a story.
David got angry about the wrong in the story.
Then Nathan looked at David and said:
"You are the man."
Suddenly David realized something.
The story was about him.
The problem wasn't somebody else.
The problem was David.
Coach T Reminder
It's easy to see somebody else's mistakes.
It's harder to see your own.
The Penalty Of Sin
The Bible says:
"The wages of sin is death."
A wage is something you earn.
When we choose sin, there is always a cost.
Sin damages relationships.
Sin damages trust.
Sin damages our connection with God.
Sin promises freedom.
But it often leaves us trapped.
The Ripple Effect
One bad decision rarely affects only one person.
David's choices hurt his family.
His leadership.
His kingdom.
Others paid a price too.
The same is true for us.
Our choices affect:
Our family.
Our friends.
Our teammates.
Our future.
Guilt And Shame
When we do wrong, we often feel guilt.
Sometimes we feel shame.
Guilt says:
"I did something wrong."
Shame says:
"I am something wrong."
There is a difference.
God wants us to admit our sin.
But He does not want us to live trapped by shame.
The Good News
David did something many people never do.
He admitted he was wrong.
No excuses.
No blaming.
No hiding.
He owned it.
And God forgave him.
David still faced consequences.
But he also experienced God's mercy.
That's important.
Forgiveness does not erase every consequence.
But forgiveness restores our relationship with God.
Coach T Challenge
Think about an area where you've been making excuses.
Stop blaming.
Stop hiding.
Be honest.
Own it.
Learn from it.
Grow from it.
That is what men do.
Think About It
Have you ever received a penalty in sports?
What was it trying to teach you?
What consequence are you facing right now that might be teaching you something?
Focus
What choice am I making today that could affect my future?
Action
Take responsibility for one thing you've been avoiding.
No excuses.
No blame.
Own it.
Reflection
Am I learning from my consequences or repeating them?
Coach T Closing Thought
A boy complains about the penalty.
A man learns from it.
Learn the lesson.
Make the adjustment.
Keep moving forward.
