JAM SESSION 1 - MY BAD
The Manhood Theme: Responsibility
Key Verse
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 3:23
The Two Words Most Men Hate
"My bad."
Those two words sound simple.
But they're hard to say.
Why?
Because nobody likes being wrong.
We like winning.
We like looking good.
We like getting credit.
But when something goes wrong, many people look for someone else to blame.
The referee.
The coach.
The teacher.
The teammate.
The weather.
The circumstances.
Anybody but themselves.
Real men do something different.
Real men take responsibility.
What Is Sin?
Sin is missing God's mark.
God's standard is perfect.
Our performance is not.
We all fall short.
Every one of us.
Not just bad people.
Not just criminals.
Not just adults.
All of us.
That's why the Bible says:
"For all have sinned..."
Not some.
All.
You.
Me.
Everybody.
The First Blame Game
Let's go back to the beginning.
God gave Adam and Eve one rule.
One.
Don't eat from a certain tree.
They chose to disobey.
When God asked what happened, neither one said:
"My bad."
Adam blamed Eve.
Eve blamed the serpent.
Everybody had an excuse.
Nobody took responsibility.
Sound familiar?
People still do the same thing today.
Coach T Reminder
A boy makes excuses.
A man takes responsibility.
Why This Matters
You can't fix what you won't admit.
You can't grow from what you blame on somebody else.
You can't become the man The Creator wants you to be if you're always pointing fingers.
Growth begins when excuses end.
Think About It
Have you ever blamed somebody else for something that was really your fault?
How did that work out?
What would have happened if you had simply said:
"My bad."
The Good News
The story doesn't end with our mistakes.
The Creator already knows you're not perfect.
That's why He sent Jesus.
Jesus came for people who mess up.
People who fall short.
People who need forgiveness.
People like me.
People like you.
Coach T Challenge
This week, don't make excuses.
When you're wrong:
Own it.
Learn from it.
Grow from it.
Just say:
"My bad."
Then do better.
That's what men do.
Focus
What mistake do I need to take responsibility for?
Action
Apologize to one person if you need to.
No excuses.
No blaming.
Own it.
Reflection
Am I making excuses or am I growing?
