Marching Into Music – The USAF Academy Years
My first formal step into music came as a cadet in the U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Gospel Choir. I was given the role of drummer, and suddenly the rhythms I had been playing in my head and on my “found percussion” had a real place to live. The discipline, precision, and teamwork I learned in those years shaped not only my musicianship but my life.
Gospel Jazz in Utah – The Upper Room
After the Academy, I became the drummer for The Upper Room: A Gospel Jazz Band in Ogden, Utah—a pioneering group blending gospel, jazz, and funk. Here, I began to explore the space between genres. I didn't just want to play music; I wanted to create something that told a story. This is where I started producing and composing what would later be known as my moody instrumental music—music that stirs emotion, paints images, and lets the listener travel through sound.
The Birth of TaurusBeats – Sample Flip Beatmaking & Moody Grooves
As my skills and curiosity grew, I stepped into the producer role more fully. Under the name TaurusBeats, I dove into sample flip beatmaking, chopping, rearranging, and reimagining sounds into something new. This became the birthplace of my signature "Moody Grooves"—beat-driven tracks infused with depth, emotion, and space for reflection.
Life Story Music – Piano Improvisation Meets Beatmaking
The next evolution came when I started improvising piano over my own beats. These weren't just instrumentals anymore—they were chapters in a personal autobiography told through sound. This was Life Story Music, and I began releasing it under my real name, Taurus M. James. Each track became a snapshot of life—joy, struggle, faith, and hope—captured in melody and rhythm.
DreZimmer & AI – Pushing the Boundaries of Creation
Today, my journey has led me to create as DreZimmer, where I'm exploring the frontier of music with AI as my collaborator. Through my Soul Speak Sessions, I perform live, using AI to expand and reimagine my original works in real time. This is not about replacing creativity—it's about amplifying it. My mission is simple: Help Other People Elevate through music that inspires, connects, and transforms.
From buckets and bottles to beats and beyond, my evolution as a musician and producer has been about more than just making music. It's been about telling stories, building bridges, and finding ways to bring people higher through the power of sound.
